Artist's Description
This photograph was taken in the White Mountains of Arizona. First time I have ever seen antelope in the mountains. This fawn is just a few months old. if yuou look close you can see the head of his sister laying down.
The pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) is a species of artiodactyl mammal endemic to interior western and central North America. Though not an antelope, it is often known colloquially in North America as the prong buck, pronghorn antelope, or simply antelope, as it closely resembles the true antelopes of the Old World and fills a similar ecological niche due to convergent evolution. It is the only surviving member of the family Antilocapridae. During the Pleistocene period, 12 antilocaprid species existed in North America. About five existed when humans entered North America13,000 years ago; all but americana are now extinct.

Voted Living up here we see them fairly often, but usually in larger groups some distance off the highway, but we've had a few on our property, as well. They are one of the main reasons we've devoted a bit over half of our acreage to animal preserve. Lovely creatures!
